The SDSO opens its 95th season lending its voice to the 2016 centennial celebration of the Pulitzer Prizes by performing winner John Luther Adams’ Become Ocean. Several events have been planned to prepare for and help celebrate this important prize and composition.

JLA Composition Lecture at Augustana University as part of the Knutson Master Class Series — The Augustana University Music Department invites
Mr. Adams for a discussion as part of the Knutson Master Series, which presents Music and the Arts through the 21st Century prism of possibility and opportunity. Augustana has invited, composers, artists, administrators, entrepreneurs, and innovators to this series.

Panel Discussion – Music in the Anthropocene
Panel: JLA, Delta David Gier, Randell Beck, and Norman Bliss
Join SDSO Music Director Delta David Gier and Pulitzer Board President Randell Beck for a panel discussion about John Luther Adams' prize-winning orchestral work Become Ocean and the environmental changes that inspired it. The composer will be present for the panel, as will Norman Bliss, Principal Scientist with ASRC Federal InuTeq, a contractor to the U.S. Geological Survey at the Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS). An environmental activist as well as composer, Adams will discuss his life's work as well as the inspiration for “Become Ocean,” to be performed by the SDSO on their opening program October 8th.
